CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SHINE IN WESTFIELD ONCE MORE

In perfect conditions, on a cold, clear night at the end of November, the Westfield Christmas lights switch on was underway.

Once again the people of Westfield turned out in numbers.  It is always an enormously popular event and the Parish Council is delighted to be able to bring some Christmas cheer to residents.

Hosting the evening was the Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr Phil Wilkison.  At the end of the event he said “thank you to all who turned out and enjoyed the evening.  We look forward to seeing you again next year.”

This year we were serenaded by Westfield Voices and Westfield Primary School Choir, accompanied by Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band.  We had an added surprise when the school recorder group gave us a lovely rendition of Silent Night.

The Rev’d Ian Rousell of St Peter’s Church highlighted the significance of Christmas both within Westfield and across the world.

The lights were excellently switched on by Lucas, Kian and Oscar, representing Westfield Football Club Juniors.  They did a marvellous job and were a credit to their club.  Councillor Wilkinson stressed how this club has been going since 1976 and how pleased he was that a Westfield based club has continued for some time – long may it continue.

There are so many people that were involved in the setting up of this event.  Special thanks must go to those who took part as well as those who helped with the set up and taking down.  The mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine proved very popular!  We really mustn’t forget to thank Santa and his elf for coming along to speak to the children of Westfield and give them a small gift.  It is always appreciated that they take the time out of their extremely busy schedule to come along to Westfield to see the children there.

We are always delighted with the Christmas display along the main road through the whole length of Westfield.  Hopefully it warms your heart as you walk or drive along on the darkest winter nights.  Our Christmas tree is splendid as always and, thanks to the guys at AF Denning, it shines brightly every year.

Can we finish by wishing all residents of Westfield a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we look forward seeing you all again next year.
